The role: A new and exciting opportunity has arisen at the OPA, as we seek to appoint an additional Project Manager to join our Major Projects Team, who will be responsible for the management and delivery for a number of Engineering Projects within the various Major Projects and/or engineering works associated with our Major Projects at any one time

The post holder will need to ensure successful execution of engineering works to time and on budget, and in full compliance with company standards and UK / European legislation.

The role entails leading a multi-disciplined engineering team, who conduct engineering activities as part of the wider project delivery team. Interfacing with stakeholders such as the DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation) and HM Navy client at all stages of the project.

There will be a need to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders and in particular our external stakeholders including DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation), HM Navy, MoD (Ministry of Defence), other Contractors/Consultants, and the CA (Competent Authority) HSE (Health & Safety Executive) & EA (Environment Agency).

Some travel with overnight stays to our other UK sites may be required, therefore a full (preferably) clean driving licence is essential for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and efficient delivery of complex projects in the highly regulated oil and gas industry from concept design through to commissioning and handover
  • To develop and maintain project governance paperwork including, but not limited to, management plans, risk, financial, programme, change control and design/construction contracts in line with the Major Project governance framework.
  • Enforcing good safety culture in all project works
  • Management and coordination of multi-discipline project teams and liaison with internal departments
  • Regular clear and concise, internal and external, project reporting

The candidate:  Degree qualified and Chartered with relevant institute, preferably Engineering, with experience with within a COMAH regulated industry/operation. A solid understanding of good project management principles and the delivery and management of a number of Major Projects at one time; able to act as an “intelligent client.”

You will have extensive experience of leading direct and indirect technical engineering project teams engaged in the delivery of complex projects within demanding time quality and cost constraints.

The successful candidate will be required to have a strong working knowledge of legislation relating to Oil Storage depots, such as COMAH, DSEAR, PSLG, MOC, and CDM.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrable evidence of project management principles and application and the delivery and management of a number of Capital Projects; able to act as an “intelligent client”.
  • An engineering background in suitable discipline with Project Management qualifications. (APM/PMP etc)
  • Have experience of leading direct and indirect technical engineering project teams engaged in the delivery of complex projects within demanding time quality and cost constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders
  • Previous experience of legislation relating to hazardous substances: ATEX,PSLG, MOC, COMAH and CDM.
  • Ability to develop new ideas and solutions and have an awareness of current and emerging technologies.
